On the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the birth of Luís de Camões, the Embassy of Portugal in Washington, D.C., the Oliveira Lima Library of the Catholic University of America, the Spanish and Portuguese Department of Georgetown University, and the Library of Congress organized a series of events called “Camões Thursdays”.
Synopsis: “Erros Meus, Má Fortuna, Amor Ardente” (2023) tells the story of a small rural village in the interior of Portugal that comes alive during a funeral, drawing people from all around the region. Maria is a young woman from this village, feeling unfulfilled in her marriage to João, who has never given her the child she desperately desires.
Amidst the mourning, Carlos arrives, creating a stir with Maria’s bold behavior that raises suspicions among the other villagers. Maria, a serious, beautiful, and virtuous woman, is adored by all the men in the village but despised by the women. This situation ignites jealousy in João and rekindles old feelings in Carlos.
