Professor Gwen Kirkpatrick Discusses Rubén Darío’s Legacy

On March 1, 2017, in the Former Residence of the Ambassador of Spain, professor Gwen Kirkpatrick participated in a lively discussion about Darío’s historical and literary legacy with professor Alba Aragón (Bridgewater State University) and Nicaraguan poet Milagros Terán.

This event was part of the commemoration of the 150 years since the birth of Rubén Darío. One of the greatest Spanish-language poets of our time, Darío’s poetry is full of artistic resourcedulness and technical perfection. These aspects explain the way in which Darío revivified and modernized poetry in Spanish on both sides of the Atlantic.

The event “150 Years of Rubén Darío” was presented by the Embassy of Spain in collaboration with Georgetown University, the Embassy of Nicaragua, and the Library of Congress. The audience participated in a fruitful and lively discussion about the influence of Darío in Spanish-language literature.
