THE LEGACY OF CHILEAN AND LATIN AMERICAN POETRY SYMPOSIUM
Please save the date for “The Legacy of Chilean and Latin American Poetry” symposium to be held on April 13th and 14th of this year. “The Legacy of Chilean and Latin American Poetry” brings together poets and literary scholars from Latin America and the United States to consider the dynamic emergence, development, and diversity of poetic forms throughout the Americas, with an emphasis on Chile. Our special guests include Soledad Bianchi, Malú Urriola, Francine Masiello, Rubí Carreño, Rodrigo Cánovas, Ana Inés Larre Borges, Paula Miranda, María Inés Zaldivar, and Marcelo Rioseco.
We also welcome you to join us during the two days before the symposium in which we will host several student-centered scholar visits. The Department of Spanish and Portuguese will welcome Professor Soledad Bianchi on Wednesday, April 11th, and Professor Rubí Carreño on Thursday, April 12th. Also on April 12th, the Department of Romance, German, and Slavic Languages and Literatures at George Washington University will host Chilean poet, Malú Urriola, and the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Maryland will host Professor Francine Masiello. A detailed schedule will be posted in mid-March.
This symposium is the result of a wonderful collaboration between the Embassy of Chile, the Hispanic Division at the Library of Congress, the Center for Latin American Studies, and the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Georgetown University. Other contributors from Georgetown University include the Department of English, the Comparative Literature Program, and the Latin America Initiative. We are working in partnership with contributors from George Washington University, the University of Maryland, and the Pontificia Universidad Católica of Chile.
