Join the Department of Spanish and Portuguese for a talk on language and education by Dr. Jasone Cenoz and Dr. Durk Gorter!

Durk Gorter is a professor of the Ikerbasque Research Foundation at the faculty of Education of the University of the Basque Country. Until 2007, he was a researcher of Language Sociolinguistics at the Fryske Akademy in Ljouwert/Leeuwarden (Netherlands) and a professor of Frisian at the University of Amsterdam. His specialization is multilingualism, European minority languages, and linguistic landscape. Some of his publications include Multilingual Europe: Facts and Policies (with Guus Extra, 2008, Mouton de Gruyter) and Linguistic Landscape: Expanding the Scenery (with Elana Shohamy, 2009, Routledge).

Jasone Cenoz’s research focuses on bilingualism and multilingualism in education. She is the editor of the International Journal of Multilingualism and she is a member of the executive committee of AILA (International Association of Applied Linguistics) and IAM (International Association of Multilingualism). Her books include Towards Multilingual Education (2009, Multilingual Matters) and The Multiple Realities of Multilingualism (with Elka Todeva de 2009, Mouton de Gruyter). Jasone Cenoz is also the coordinator of Educational Sciences at the Spanish Agency for Evaluation and Prospection (ANEP) from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Technology.
