Georgetown U/Hong Kong University Collaboration

Georgetown U/Hong Kong University collaboration. Last March 25th and 28th, of the present year, graduate students in the Spanish Linguistics program and students in Dr. Fernández-Mallat’s undergraduate course participated in the University of Hong Kong’s annual International Language Fair. The purpose of this Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) project is to exchange ideas on language and identity as part of the Multicultural and Global Diversity Project. Students in Hong Kong learned about how the use of Spanish in the US contributes to identity formation while students in the US learned about the role of individual and societal use of Cantonese, English, or Mandarin in the formation of  Hong Kong’s identity.
