Field trip – SpanPort students visited the Hirshhorn Museum
GU Undergraduate Students with Instructor Maggie Dunlap, Ph.D. Student, Literature & Cultural Studies
After learning about the dynamic city of São Paulo, Brazil, students in Accelerated Portuguese visited the Hirshhorn Museum to view the first US retrospective of the work of twin brothers Gustavo and Otavio Pandolfo, known by their artistic name OSGEMEOS (Portuguese for “the twins”). Born in the Cambuci neighborhood of São Paulo in 1974, OSGEMEOS has been creating art inspired by urban art forms like graffiti and hip-hop since childhood. At the museum, students chose a favorite piece from the exhibit to describe using vocabulary they have learned in class. Afterwards, students walked across the mall to the Brazilian steakhouse Fogo de Chão where they sampled traditional churrasco (grilled meat), feijoada (pork and bean stew), and brigadeiros (chocolate truffles).
